Choo Choo Weekend Itinerary
Friday, June 3, 2005
Registration will open at 5:00 p.m. at BellSouth Park, Home of
the Lookouts in downtown Chattanooga at the far western end of Third
Street. You may park your vehicle for the weekend at no cost in
Unumprovident’s large lots located on Fourth Street, just
a few blocks from the Park. Alternatively you may park in the lot
next to the aquarium for a daily fee.
At the time of registration, you will receive your wristband that
you must wear throughout the weekend. The wristband will contain
your identifying information as well as your emergency contact information.
It will also be your “pass” to all waterstops, lunch
and dinner stops. You will also receive your jersey, bicycle and
luggage tags, map for the weekend’s ride, and itinerary of
events. We ask that all riders wear their Choo Choo Challenge jerseys
on Day 1 of the ride!
You may park your bicycle at BellSouth Park overnight in a locked
indoor bicycle storage area. Make sure that you have affixed your
bicycle tags for easy identification. Mechanical support will be
available that night for last minute mechanical issues. We strongly
urge you to have your bike tuned up in advance of the event.
Spend a few minutes at the Choo Choo Challenge Shop for event memorabilia.
At 5:30 p.m., join with other cyclists and volunteers for a pasta
feast provided by Tony’s Pasta of Chattanooga.
We welcome you to bring friends and family to our opening night
dinner.
The opening ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. kicking off the second
annual Choo Choo Challenge! The evening should wrap up by 8:00 p.m.
so that everyone can get a good night’s rest.
Saturday, June 4, 2005
Registration will reopen at BellSouth Park at 5:30 a.m. Breakfast
will be served at 5:30 a.m. Expect a smorgasbord of cereals, fruits
and pastries to fuel the first part of your ride.
Luggage trucks will be available for overnight luggage for two
day cyclists and for luggage for one day cyclists who would like
to shower at Bryan College after the ride. Make sure that you carry
prescription medication with you.
At 6:45 a.m. all cyclists will assemble at BellSouth and depart
on their trip! This year the CCC is excited about a new 25 mile
route that will begin and end in BellSouth Park!
You will see medical and mechanical vans as you ride along the
route. Sweep vans will pick up cyclists who desire this type of
support.
Water stops will be set up every twenty miles along the route and
will feature food, drink, toilet facilities, medical and mechanical
support, and some R&R for the cyclists.
For the metric century and century cyclists, the first water stop
will be in Soddy Daisy at approximately the 20 mile mark. At 40
miles, the second water stop will be at the Lewis Chapel Community
Center on Mowbray Mountain. At mile 60, a light lunch will be available
at Kristopher’s Kingdom in Graysville. Shortly thereafter
the metric century cyclists will head over the finish line in Cedar
Point Park and will enjoy a barbeque and band on the Bryan College
Campus.
The century cyclists will continue on their journey with one last
water stop at Rhea County High School.
Upon arrival in Dayton, cyclists will check in at the Registration
Table on the Bryan College campus. Watch for signs as you arrive
on campus.
Showers will be available for one day cyclists. For cyclists staying
overnight, the CCC will assign your room number at the time you
check in. You may bring your bike into your dorm room or leave it
in the lobby of the dormitory on the first floor. You will find
your luggage in your assigned dorm room. Linens will be provided,
however, you must bring your own towel(s).
There is an outdoor pool on campus that is available to you and
your family. A lifeguard will be on duty at all times.
The afternoon and evening’s festivities will take place just
outside the dormitories in the grassy quadrangle. We plan to offer
barbeque fare for lunch and an assorted dinner menu. Vegetarian
options will be available throughout the weekend.
Again we welcome your family and friends at all of the evening’s
activities.
You will enjoy a day of food and music, as well as the camaraderie
of other cyclists and volunteers.
Sunday, June 5, 2005
A sunrise service will be offered at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday morning
on campus at Bryan College followed by breakfast at the Bryan College
cafeteria. Cyclists will again load luggage on the appropriate truck
and set out that morning after breakfast.
Again, cyclists will choose the distance that they desire to ride;
the CCC will offer a 85 mile route and a 50 mile route back to BellSouth,
but cyclists who would like to ride a shorter distance are encouraged
to do so. The CCC will transport those cyclists who choose to ride
a shorter distance back to BellSouth Park after they have finished
riding.
On Sunday you will find the same level of medical, mechanical and
sweep support along the route. Three waterstops will be available
approximately every twenty miles: a waterstop in Birchwood, a waterstop
at Prospect School and a third waterstop, at Ooltewah/Georgetown
Road and Snow Hill Road approximately twenty miles outside of Chattanooga.
BellSouth Park will be a welcome sight to the cyclists at the end
of the route. Cyclists will check in at the registration booth and
will find their luggage awaiting them.
The closing festivities will include lunch and music in celebration
of the cyclists’ and volunteers’ commitment to make
a difference for cancer patients and their families!
BellSouth Park will dedicate the baseball game on June 5, 2005
at 2:00 p.m. to the Choo Choo Challenge. Cyclists will be admitted
to the game at no cost. Friends and family members may purchase
tickets at a reduced rate.
